FULL EPISODE TRANSCRIPT

Darren Clark:                    This is the DigitalMarketer.

Darren Clark:                    This week it’s the T&C special episode part one. Today Garrett and Jenna are going to talk you through everything you need to know in preparation for Traffic and Conversion Summit 2019.

Garrett Holmes:           Hello and welcome to a very special episode of The DigitalMarketer Podcast.

Jenna Snavely:              A very special episode. It’s going to be a little bit short and sweet but it’s going to be jam packed.

Garrett Holmes:           That’s right. So, this special episode of the DM podcast is dedicated to all of you out there who are going to Traffic and Conversion Summit this upcoming week. This is an exciting time.

Jenna Snavely:              It is.

Garrett Holmes:           Oh man …

Jenna Snavely:              It’s the 10th anniversary.

Garrett Holmes:           The 10th … This is a big one. This is a big one. Not only is this the 10th anniversary but this is officially the biggest Traffic and Conversion Summit to date. I think last time we checked were close to approaching six thousand attendees this year. It’s going to be awesome.

Jenna Snavely:              It’s going to be packed.

Garrett Holmes:           It’s going to be awesome. So, what we wanted to do today was just give you a crash course in everything that you need to know for your upcoming trip to Traffic and Conversion Summit so that you can get the most out of the event and be prepared to take all of this info and knowledge back home to your businesses to implement.

Jenna Snavely:              Well, let’s start with registration. That’s the first thing you’re going to do upon arrival. The times that you can register, the earliest possible time you can register will be Sunday February 24th starting at 2:00 p.m. and that will go all the way through 8:00 p.m. We’re actually going to be having a kick off party sponsored by [inaudible 00:01:47] and Connective CRM. And we’re going to be feeding you guys and we’ll have a little bit of booze and hoping that you’ll be able to connect and network while you register for T&C.

Garrett Holmes:           Yeah, it’s going to be really good and just to encourage everyone out there try to register as early as possible. With so many people coming to the event it’s important to make sure you get your registration done, out of the way. If you’re there on Sunday before the event starts, 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Go and register and get yourself all set up so that you don’t have to worry about it on Monday morning.

Jenna Snavely:              Absolutely because Monday morning it will reopen at 7:00 a.m. So, that’s Monday, the first day of the event, February 25th. We will reopen for registration at 7:00 a.m. but the first key note starts at 8:30 a.m. so that means a lot of people will be in that line and last year we did indeed have a lot of people. Make sure you get there as early as possible just to get it done, get in, and find your seat.

Garrett Holmes:           Yup, and if you don’t get there until Monday afternoon or let’s say you get there Tuesday afternoon or something like that registration will be open from 7:00 a.m. all the way to the end of the day on Monday and Tuesday as well. So, if you do show up late don’t worry you’ll still be able to register. Alright. So, next up let’s talk about something fun. Let’s talk about the parties.

Garrett Holmes:           So, as Jenna mentioned on that first day, Sunday, February 24th we’re going to be holding the Traffic and Conversion Summit welcome reception in the Marriott Marquis large marina terrace. This event is going to be just a great kick-off event for everyone to meet and mingle and see who you’re going to be sitting alongside for the next three days learning from all of these amazing speakers.

Jenna Snavely:              You can expect a cover band, you can expect food and booze, and I’m pretty sure that some of the team here will have drink tickets that we’ll be passing out so.

Garrett Holmes:           Okay. Okay. Next up on Monday the 25th we have VIP reception in the Maropost ballroom. So, this one is limited to VIP ticket holders but if you do hold a VIP ticket yourself you are welcome to join us in the Maropost ballroom that Monday the 25th.

Jenna Snavely:              And that’s going to be a casino night, more food, more booze. We’re going to take care of y’all. And last year we did a casino night for VIP and it was so ridiculously fun. It was so much fun. I never knew how to do any gambling and I learned, and it was a nice low pressure environment to learn although some people were very serious about it. So, if you’re VIP show up you’re going to love it. It’s going to be an awesome one.

Garrett Holmes:           Yes. And last party of the week Tuesday February 26th. This is happening after all of the festivities of the day are over and we’re going to be heading out to Parq Nightclub for what we’re calling this year the Marketer’s Ball. So, this is going to be a huge huge event. There’s going to be some …

Jenna Snavely:              Surprise musical acts.

Garrett Holmes:           Yeah. I can’t say the details here but it’s going to be some fun music that you’re not going to want to miss. In addition, this is the big anniversary celebration party so there’s going to be some nostalgia thrown at you from the early days of T&C.

Jenna Snavely:              Yeah we’re going all out on this one.

Garrett Holmes:           Yeah, it’s going to be a good one. So, make sure to attend this parties. These parties are a great way to network. These parties are a great way to meet your fellow DigitalMarketers. And also just a great way to have some fun in San Diego ’cause you’re going to be learning all day so let a little bit loose. Make sure you get your sleep but have some fun.

Jenna Snavely:              Yeah, maybe drink your Gatorade.

Garrett Holmes:           Yeah.

Jenna Snavely:              Well, let’s talk about what you’re going to learn. So, if you’ve looked at the agenda it’s gonna be stacked every single session. But what I want to make sure that you guys are aware of is which keynote is when. I know you’ve seen all the promos for Rachel Hollis, and Richard Branson, and Ryan, and Sally Hogshead. So, I want to make sure you know exactly when to go and where to go to see the people you want to see. So, on day one that opening keynote starts at 8:30 a.m. and that of course is going to be Ryan Deiss of DigitalMarketer opening T&C 2019 for us. And at the very end Richard Branson himself will be closing out day one. That starts at 5:30 p.m. Both of these sessions will be in the DigitalMarketer ballroom.

Garrett Holmes:           Alright day two. Guess who’s kicking it off on day two? It’s none other than Mr. Ryan Deiss again. This is going to be an awesome keynote. He’s going to get a little more technical than day one and really dive into all of the fun things that are going to be happening throughout the day in day two. And then, we’re actually going to be rounding out day two with none other than Rachel Hollis. So, if you’re familiar with such books as Girl Wash Your Face …

Jenna Snavely:              Girl Stop Apologizing.

Garrett Holmes:           I’m lost. Are there more?

Jenna Snavely:              Oh, she’s got way more and if you want to hear from Rachel. I actually got to see some of her AV requirements and some of her AV needs and it’s going to be amazing. It’s going to be an amazing keynote. That day two keynote, 5:30 p.m. I hope y’all show up for that.

Garrett Holmes:           Yeah, she actually requested … What was it? Can I say?

Jenna Snavely:              It’s a Beyonce song.

Garrett Holmes:           Beyonce. So, that’s going to be super super awesome. Yeah let’s move on to day three.

Jenna Snavely:              Day three opening the event, so excited for this one, it’s going to be Sally Hogshead from How To Fascinate. If you’re an attendee to T&C you’ll have an email with a special promo code to take her fascination advantage assessment. She’s actually going to be breaking down the entire T&C audience. So, you’re going to want to go to that one. She’s going to be telling you how to use your fascination advantage in your marketing, how to use what you’re learning at this event in your marketing in the future. That also ties into who you are as a marketer, who you are as a person. I’m so stoked for this one.

Garrett Holmes:           Yeah. Going to be super cool and we’ve actually done this here in the office and had a ton of fun with it. So, this is going to be really really cool to see.

Jenna Snavely:              And I know she’s also going to be taking some of our own staff members and breaking down their personalities so no secrets. And then, closing out the entire event will be Richard Leonard, President here at DigitalMarketer. He’s going to be talking about the growth leverage you can pull to actually take this information and do something with it because we don’t want you to lock your notes, your pages of notes you took at T&C 2019 in a file cabinet and leave it there forever. We want you to do something with this. So, Richard’s going to be telling you exactly how to do something with what you have learned the past three days. And then of course Ryan Deiss will come out and he’ll close down the show.

Garrett Holmes:           Oh yeah. It’s going to be a sad moment closing off T&C.

Jenna Snavely:              It always is.

Garrett Holmes:           T&C 2019, but a lot of special announcements in store about the future of Traffic and Conversion Summit coming from that stage so.

Jenna Snavely:              Oh, that’ll be so good. I forgot about that.

Garrett Holmes:           It’s going to be so cool.

Jenna Snavely:              And we’re definitely going to be announcing … Well, we have some big contests. We’re going to be announcing some winners during that, that last day.

Garrett Holmes:           So, once you get to Traffic and Conversion Summit and you get ahold of your program when you open that first page you’ll see on the inside of the cover there’s a bunch of information about events happening in the San Diego ballroom on day one, day two, and day three. So, those are, think of them as events within an event. So, basically …

Jenna Snavely:              We’re so excited about this one.

Garrett Holmes:           Yeah this is going to be super cool. So, day one is fully dedicated to all the agencies out there. This is going to be digital agency day. So, we’ve got a ton of awesome agency focused sessions to really help you grow, elevate, and just do everything that you need to do this year to make your agency the best that it can be. This is going to be a ton of fun, hosted by our very own Marcus Murphy, Director of Monetization here at DigitalMarketer. And it’s going to be a great time. So, if you’re an agency you’re not going to want to miss digital agency day.

Jenna Snavely:              And of course day two in the San Diego ballroom this next event … Y’all this is three events within an event, day one, day two, and day three. The second event within an event is influence hosted of course by Brendon Burchard. It’s going to be packed with influencers. I mean these people have millions of followers and combined the level of influence in that room that day is going to be overwhelming. If you at all are talking about growing your audience, growing your business through growing your audience, and how to talk to a large audience at scale you’re going to want to be in the San Diego ballroom on day two.

Garrett Holmes:           Yeah and if you are a founder, if you have your own business then day three is for you. This is going to be the founders only event. It’s going to be action packed with high high level strategy sessions with Roland Frasier, Perry Belcher, Ryan Deiss, Dean Graziosi. This is going to be the event for all of the founders out there who want to level up their business with some behind the scenes looks at what some of the biggest names at Traffic and Conversion Summit are doing today in their business. So, day three is founders only. If you are a founder you’re going to want to check that out.

Jenna Snavely:              And y’all this is a single ballroom inside of this event. So, just remember we have six ballrooms going on at the same time and three days full of content. It’s going to be jam packed. There is no scheduled lunch. We’re going to go straight through, 30 minute breaks all the way through consistent. You pick what you want to skip. It’s going to be a hard decision every single time and that’s how we build it.

Garrett Holmes:           Oh yeah. But you can always get the recordings afterwards and this year we’re also doing the Traffic and Conversion Summit notes again. So, you’ll have the opportunity to make sure not to miss a single session through those.

Jenna Snavely:              Yeah. I actually know people who just go and they network the entire time and then just buy the recordings and notes and do all that later.

Garrett Holmes:           Yeah.

Jenna Snavely:              So, you do it the way you want to do it. This is your event.

Garrett Holmes:           You’re in charge.

Jenna Snavely:              You’re in charge here. Well, let’s talk about what they’re going to wear.

Garrett Holmes:           Clothing. I know I just …

Jenna Snavely:              Please wear pants.

Garrett Holmes:           Yes please wear pants.

Jenna Snavely:              We’re not working from home this time.

Garrett Holmes:           I just updated my wardrobe. I got myself a nice, some sort of blue. I’m horrible with clothes so it was a big step for me to go out and get a nice suit. So, I got myself a Calvin Klein. I’m going to look fresh. I’m going to look nice. You’ll find me on the Unplugged stage in my brand new navy blue Calvin Klein suit so come see me.

Jenna Snavely:              And yeah, this is just a place to look nice. You don’t have to go full fancy. We want you to be comfortable. I would expect it might be a little bit chilly in some of the ballrooms so layers always a good idea. As far as what to wear when you’re going out at night resort casual. We are in San Diego, California but it is still February so I highly recommend a jacket, maybe a pair of tights if you’re going to have your legs, your stems out.

Garrett Holmes:           That’s right. And look nice. This is a big opportunity to meet thousands of people and make thousands of first impressions. Nobody’s going to really be mad if you show up in sweat pants but I would recommend you don’t.

Jenna Snavely:              I would say that’s a total power move though.

Garrett Holmes:           No, but on the topic of first impressions this is a big opportunity to network with your fellow digital marketers. And actually we wanted to share a quick sound byte from a previous episode of business lunch with Roland Frasier where he spoke to Mark Anthony Bates all about the power of networking and how to maximize your ability to network. So, let’s take a listen real quick.

Roland Frasier:             Mark is probably the most connected guy I know. Mark, what is the magic that you do that makes that happen?

Mark Anthony Bates:         The first thing that I do is just I’m polite, I listen, I build rapport. The second thing is that when they ask me questions about me I need to build credibility as an authority figure understanding something that they don’t know about. And then, the third thing I do is I ask them, “What’s your biggest challenge?” And when I ask them that challenge it’s now refocused about them. And then, when they go into what that focus is I begin to turn up that focus, the pain, and I’ll start twisting it and then throw salt on it because I can ask them in words that get them to really pay attention to how painful it is because they’ve been suppressing it or they didn’t realize how bad the situation was.

Mark Anthony Bates:         And then, I do a thing I call, If I Could Would You. If I could provide a way that we can go ahead and take that pain or make that thing go away would you be open to discussing further how we could make that happen? The thing that I think a lot of the audience needs to pay attention to are where are the people that they need to connect with. Where is that proximity? So, being, I was telling Darren earlier I’ve got this guy that talks about proximity as power and I said, “Well it is to a degree but if I’m sitting next to the president of a country and I never engage in a conversation. If I don’t build rapport, if I don’t build credibility it doesn’t matter that I’m sitting right next to him period. But if I start to go through that process again.”

Roland Frasier:             Proximity plus connection yeah.

Mark Anthony Bates:         So, you need to have that and be very consciously aware of it. The thing that’s important is that when people go to, especially celebrities, they’re used to people coming up and barging in or wanting an autograph or something. And we need to treat them like they’re family and that to be respectful but at the same time excusing yourself. And this is interesting. I have people come up all the time and Roland I know you do this too. You go, “I don’t mean to interrupt but”. No, you absolutely meant to interrupt that’s why you did it. But if you say, “Excuse me for interrupting. Excuse me for this but I just wanted to share something.” I mean we all know the law of reciprocity and yes it comes into play but if you’re not using that for the reason why you want to connect with somebody it’s a big difference. And Roland so many times when you and I have been together and no matter who you’re meeting I see you ask that question. “What do you need help with? What do you need support with?”

Roland Frasier:             And when you ask it ’cause I’ve watched lots of people and heard lots of people ask me that but their mind is a million miles away thinking about already how they’re going to ask for the next thing they want.

Mark Anthony Bates:         Exactly.

Roland Frasier:             I think you have to mean it and also act on it right away. So, frequently I’ll say, “Hang on a minute”. They’ll say, “I want to meet somebody”. I’ll say, “I can connect you”. But then I say, “Hang on a minute. I’m going to do that right now ’cause if I don’t do it right now I’m going to forget and then it will never happen.” I think that changes frames of reference a lot because a lot of people don’t do that. A lot of people just glad hand it’s an empty promise to help them out and if they see you actually doing it and then they’re connected to that person on the phone while you’re there, that’s a big deal. And I think that sincerity in terms of action proof, like proof of the action that you’re going to take to help them goes a long ways.

Garrett Holmes:           And that’s how you network.

Jenna Snavely:              And pens down?

Garrett Holmes:           Pens down. Alright that’s time. No seriously take advantage of the networking opportunities at Traffic and Conversion summit. There’s going to be a lot of really really cool people there who you can start using as resources within your business and craft those relationships with. I mean there’s a couple of people that I’ve been talking to that are just like, “Yeah I feel like going back to Traffic and Conversion Summit is almost like going home to see my family”. That’s so cool to hear that.

Jenna Snavely:              You’re going to make me cry.

Garrett Holmes:           Alright. What to bring.

Jenna Snavely:              Let’s talk about what to bring. So, I will recommend the classics here, a notebook, a pen, something to write with, your chargers.

Garrett Holmes:           Don’t forget ’em.

Jenna Snavely:              Don’t forget your chargers. Your business cards. If you have business cards. Or, the little QR code on your linked in, pass that on to people. And I highly, highly, highly, highly, highly recommend you bring a wifi hotspot. The wifi will not be accessible inside of the hotel. We do this so that attention is totally totally focused on the presenter on stage. We don’t want people on their laptops looking at Facebook, commenting on pictures of cats, sharing memes. Be in the moment.

Garrett Holmes:           Be present.

Jenna Snavely:              Be present.

Garrett Holmes:           Be at Traffic and Conversion Summit.

Jenna Snavely:              But that being said if you want to be Tweeting about your experience, if you want to be checking your email, if you’ve got to have wifi for one reason or another whether it’s to pass notes onto your colleagues or to just check in with your loved ones at home we highly recommend that wifi hotspot. It will do you a world of good.

Garrett Holmes:           Totally. So, don’t forget to bring all of those things and also don’t forget to bring your cell phone. I know you’re not going to forget that but what better thing to put on that cell phone than the Traffic and Conversion Summit app. So, if you go to the app store on your Android or Apple device, search Traffic and Conversion Summit, you’ll find the app there to download. And this is going to be your go to resource for receiving any updates that we have during the event, setting up meetings with fellow attendees, checking the agenda, and just finding your way around the venue. While you’re at Traffic and Conversion Summit you’re definitely going to want to have this on your phone so that you can have access to all of this information at your finger tips.

Jenna Snavely:              You’re going to receive an event program. It’s a great place to take notes, write down any action items, and just keep track of what you’re doing day to day.

Garrett Holmes:           Totally. That event program is stacked with information and it looks pretty.

Jenna Snavely:              [inaudible 00:19:32]

Garrett Holmes:           Taylor and Keila our designers here did an amazing job.

Jenna Snavely:              They did. And I do want to just make the note that this year we will not have a printed agenda available. We do this because it is really hard to plan an agenda that has no changes in time for print and especially with this much going on. So, this year we just have a fully web agenda and it’s on the app as well. So, the app is a great way to keep updated on the agenda. If there’s any changes we will make them. So, make sure you download the app, a lot of stuff there, and I recommend planning your agenda, planning what you’re going to do before the event.

Garrett Holmes:           Totally. So, one more thing before we go today I wanted to let you know about this awesome opportunity that Roland Frasier of the Business Lunch podcast has put together and that is an opportunity to meet and greet with the man himself Mr. Richard Branson. So …. Sir.

Jenna Snavely:              Sir Richard Branson.

Garrett Holmes:           Yup. So, as you know Sir Richard Branson will be keynoting the events on day one but if you head on over to Businesslunchpodcast.com you can see all of the details on how to enter the competition to be able to meet Richard Branson, ask him questions, network, and have the opportunity to have some face time with Sir Richard Branson himself. So, head on over to Businesslunchpodcast.com to learn more about that. Alright, well I think that’s everything that you need to know.

Jenna Snavely:              Yeah, we’ll see you in San Diego. The rest you’ve got to find out for yourself.

Garrett Holmes:           Yeah, it’s going to be so much fun. We’re going to have such a good time out there and we can’t wait to see every single one of you. If you know what we look like come see us. Come say hi. We’ll be running around like crazy people but we’re always happy to say hello to our podcast.

Jenna Snavely:              Tell us that we’re better looking in person too.

Garrett Holmes:           Yes exactly wow. You look so great. Alright y’all we’ll see you out in San Diego and we hope you have an amazing Traffic and Conversion Summit 2019.

Jenna Snavely:              Bye.
