DM Favorites: Tools and Resources

Lately, every new day in quarantine has forced us to become more creative. Creative with our marketing initiatives, of course, but also creative with how to keep ourselves focused and busy at home. So we’ve rounded up a quick list of the tools that are keeping us going right now, from apps for work to life apps (or should we say hacks) that can make things a whole lot easier.

Check it out:

1. Social Media Today

Social Media Today is the lifeblood of our social media manager. She checks it literally every morning to make sure she hasn’t missed any major news on the social front. But not only that, this site also constantly promotes new tools, resources, and tips that we can investigate and test out. This is a great resource for any social media manager or any business wanting to get in front of customers on any social platform.

2. Forest!

Keeping you focused (or else you’ll murder a plant).

Honestly, we think their website describes it best:

It’s basically the new age Tamagotchi—except eco-friendly. The more focused you are, the bigger your trees (and eventual forest) will grow. It’s a great psychology trick for staying on track during the day so you don’t get off-task. But the best part is that they partner with a REAL LIFE tree-planting organization, Trees for the Future. When you earn and spend coins in the app, the app donates to the organization and everything is beautiful. Like we said… it’s our new favorite.

3. Hemingway.app

If you haven’t heard of this app yet, you’re missing out. This is a great one for anyone writing ANY type of content for their company or business. The main function is to analyze the readability of your content and also  let you know what reading level your content is at.

Pro tip: always try to stick to a 6th to 8th grade reading level for your marketing content!

The other great part of this app is that it color codes your content into recommendations for how to improve your writing, such as splitting a sentence into two or pointing out the passive voice. It’s the best for keeping your writing clear and concise. It’ll also count words for you, which is great if you’re trying to set a goal for yourself to write a specific number of words per day!

4. Pilot Flair Pens

Dm favorite pens

We have a couple really big pen nerds in our office and these came highly recommended for both personal and professional use. Actually, the entire content team at DM received a pack, so they could make their daily writing prompts the MOST colorful. 🌈 They write smoothly, of course, but we’re fans because of all the pretty colors (obviously). We suggest sending a pack to colleagues just to brighten their day!

5. Internet Brunch

Did someone say brunch? Maybe we’re all just nostalgic for the days of pancakes and mimosas with friends… but the Internet Brunch Newsletter has been keeping our appetites in check for now. It’s a feel-good newsletter that’s a quick read, but also chock full of today’s top news, funny tweets, sports, and animal videos! More importantly, it keeps you updated on the best daily holidays! For example, did you know that May 20 is World Bee Day? You go, little honey-makers!

So there you have it, 5 quick resources you can use to make your life just a little bit easier during all this chaos. Hopefully some or all of these tools and resources will help you stay focused (and keep our forests alive and well).
