Just when you think social media’s visual revolution is going to start cooling off… Shareaholic releases a new traffic report that puts Pinterest over Bing, StumbleUpon, and Google’s referral traffic.
Despite all the naysayers, Pinterest has continued to keep growing steadily, even after the initial hype wore off… and turned into jealousy and contempt.
Actually, Pinterest’s referral traffic has grown by a healthy 40% since January, when the hype machine started – moving from .85% to 1.19%.
Over time, it appears to be one of the social networks that are siphoning the referral traffic away from a few other under-appreciated referral sources like Stumble, which took a tumble from 1.3% to 0.96% since the start of the year. Twitter’s share of referral traffic has also grown, but not by any impressive margin.
Pinterest is the biggest success story here, as Bing, StumbleUpon, and even Facebook have seen referral traffic dip.
Before you get too excited, it’s important to note that Google’s referral traffic, as defined by Shareaholic, does NOT include organic search or Adwords traffic. Compared to Google search’s 46.8% — Pinterest’s traffic is a pittance.
Still, that puts Pinterest in 4th place, behind only Google search, Facebook, and Yahoo for referral traffic… pretty freaking impressive. And that doesn’t even take into account the stats that are showing that a Pinterest referral may be twice as valuable as a Facebook referral…
